Dr. Avin Partavian

I am a registered and chartered practitioner psychologist with many years of experience within different settings. I have worked with clients from different cultural backgrounds presented with a variety of mental health challenges and difficulties. I emphasise on the importance of multicultural perspective in psychotherapy and counselling. The aim of multicultural therapy is to address the concerns of clients whose race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, income, disability status, or other social factor(s) falls outside of the majority or outside the dominant social group.

I am passionate about being a part of my client's recovery and healing process and to see them achieve relief from emotional, psychological, spiritual or relational pain. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is really at the heart of enabling change and progress. My clients tell me that they feel validated, understood and respected as I am warm, compassionate and sensitive to their needs and beliefs.

I work from an integrative approach employing different evidence based psychological therapies to tailor support around each person's specific situation and needs. I am able to draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness and Compassion Focused (CFT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy and Narrative Exposure Therapy.

I have extensive experience of assessing and providing psychological interventions for a range of problems including; depression, anxiety disorders (obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, panic, generalised anxiety), low self-esteem, trauma, PTSD, self-harm, physical illnesses, personality difficulties and bipolar. I provide therapy in English, Kurdish (Sorani) and Farsi.

I believe that my clients are the experts of their lives and experiences and therefor I work collaboratively and flexibly, integrating these approaches to meet my clients needs and goals.
